Where it all began
My brother-in-law and I were approached 29 years ago to take over a business. The business was distributors of aluminium pots. I didn't know much about it, because at that time I only did contract work as an electrician.
Erna Oplidal, who already worked there, was our right hand. We sold aluminium pots and brooms at that time. It wasn't too long after that when a person came to see us to sell fluorescent bulbs, which have a 5-year warranty. We started selling more and more electrical materials.
In 1994, Giant Marketing was founded. Giant Marketing sold electrical supplies, aluminium pots, and more. We then decided to focus only on electrical materials, as this was in my specialist field. We set up shop in Silicon Street, and Henriette van Heerden, who was my right hand at my contracting business, moved over to Giant. Ralph Bam also joined the Giant family, and we just grew from strength to strength. I have a wonderful wife, Ria Swart, and we also have two children, Carel and Minrie. Carel has his own solar business, Greenco Energy Solutions, and Minrie joined us in 2023.
My motto for business is: A successful business' foundations must be built on honesty and sincerity with the Lord as your cornerstone.
